Alright guys, I have been searching for about 15 minutes for another topic related to this one. I recently visited Ole's site, and check out some screenshots of his upcoming dive machines for the new NoLimits 2 rollercoaster simulation. Updates.

Is it me, or do these photos resemble the work of 3dvip?

Wow amazing stuff! It all looks so much more realistic now. I wonder what the system requirements are gonna be like for NL?

I wonder if your gonna be able to do a splash down because it looks like he put the things  that spray the water up on the trains.

I think he said he'll be improving the sound alot. I really hope he puts passengers, better stations, qeue lines, the lift motors. It'll probably win some great awards once it is released.

Some things i would too like to see include:

Actual 3D catwalks.... not the simple paper thin style ones in NL1 and there should be a lot more options for catwalk styles such as the ability to join them together as a continuous walkway regardless of segments.

Greater flexibility when it comes to working with 3D files. Would be nice if there was a tool included especially for importing 3ds files which would make sure all the settings where correct so i would appear properly in the sim.

A completely revamped Terraformer. I would be a shame to see that beautiful 3D engine go to waste It's all very well and good having an awesome coaster but if its sat on a boring flat open load of grass its not going to feel right. It should be much easier for people to create interesting terrains.

A copy and paste function within the editor would save hours of time.

Paintbrush for dropping in trees..... putting them individually is a joke when your trying to make a forest!

Day/night cycle system simillar to RCT3 perhaps?

And finally support for lights. Station lights, walkway lights, light becons for the tops of lifthills etc.... Volumetric lighting may be asking a bit much considering NL renders on the fly but on a powerful enough machine it would be amazing.

So, guys, Ole mentioned, his target for the release is Spring 2011 (however in some of his later posts, he says maybe late 2010):

The sun will rotate around the scene in a very real manner depending on time and earth location. The shadows will instantly adapt to the current sun's position. No more need for using skybox textures or switching between environments. Let me get into more detail about the following screenshots. The left most screenshot shows a good weather sky with some trees and auto-plant grass. The shadows of the trees are casted on the terrain and grass. In the middle screenshot, the clouds are becoming more denser. The clouds are computed in realtime and are not a fixed texture. The weather seems to change from good to rain. On the right screenshot, the weather completely turned into a rainy day. The sky is completely overcasted and rain particles are falling down. Even though the trees are not looking that great yet, the screenshots clearly show how much work was spent into a couple of great additions I have been working on. There is still a lot to do and I do not think NL2 will be ready to come out next year. I am now targetting for Spring 2010. Thanks for the patience, but things like that simply need a lot of time. It will be definetely worth waiting for.

Good news for Dave, copy and paste will be one of the many options in the simulation. Ole listed down these things:

-No more Editor and Simulator, it will be put together and will be much easier to use:

For NL2 you can expect that the editor is built right into the simulator sharing the same display. The big advantage is that you do not have to switch between two applications if you want to try out your ideas.

Febuary 17th, 2008

-Working on a built-in Force Vector Design Tool, that will allow you to create tracks specified by G-Force values.

-You will be able to create parks (Wow!)

-Snow is now an option in weather:

-Better graphics:

-The work is about 60-70% completed! (Which gives it better info cause the target is around end of 2010, spring of 2011).

More updates will follow..
